Being a New Parent – The Joy and Changes

Having a baby is a gift for sure. Along with this is a lifetime change. Changes in lifestyle, changes in priorities and changes in habits.

When baby arrives, all the attention is focused to the new member of the family. Every mother, every parent will do everything to make sure the baby stays healthy as always. These changes are normal. The period of adjustment of having a baby starts at this point… and we all know that the sleeping habits of all will change.

Many times at night, parent would wake up few times to change diaper, feed and play with the baby. This task is really tiring. Along with these are the sleepless nights. Any pains like body ache or back pain is being brought by the new routine of having a baby, and pills or prescription drugs is not a good idea. The following are some tips that can help adjust the joy and hardship of having a new baby:

- Avoid caffeine, nicotine and alcohol

- Baby things must be placed near the bed so that it can easily be reached at night.

- Ask members of your family to be considerate of your nap time

- Avoid looking at the time when trying to take a nap. This causes stress and will lead to insomnia.

- Try to rest when the baby is asleep. Avoid wasting your time doing work.

- When working, practice taking a nap at lunchtime

- Ask your spouse to take turns in taking care of the baby.

It is important to take in consideration your health also. You are important to your growing child.
