Whatever may lead to it, Single parenting is very detrimental to children even though this should not be the case. During the initial period, I found it very agonizing and nearly led chaotic lifestyle.
However if you have support group that you are active in, the group could consist of friends and family members or good counsellors, your problems may become minimised.
As a single parent I faced many emotional and practical problems. I had to coordinate seemingly endless tasks and responsibilities, ensure the security of the children and maintain their physical and mental health.
There is no simple way for one person to accomplish so much. However, I tried as much as possible to physche myself for the daunting tasks ahead. I did not want to complain about having a chaotic life style due to single parenting. I did not fall into the trap of working too hard to put food on the table to the detriment of having to spend little time with the children. Even though, it then seemed that the loss of a partner to share in the care of the children could be detrimental.
I came to realise that single parenting provided me with an unique opportunity to influence the development my children without the hindrance that having a partner can often bring. I never allowed myself to be bogged down by the practicalities of raising the children alone, I believed that the benefits were far outweigh the disadvantages.
As the children grew in age, I allowed them to help make family decisions. We established household routine. They were assigned the tasks that were commiserate with their respective ages. I never said anything bad about their mother. I communicated openly and honestly with the children.
I grew much closer to my children and we developed stronger bond to the benefit of all of us. I discovered that the children became matured early and developed greater sense of responsibility. I found it much easier to establish guidelines and rules for the children without having to debate them with a partner.
Interestingly enough.my children never had detrimental effects in terms of both their personal and educational development. The loss of a partner also put to an end to our frequent disagreements, arguments and tension that were always the order of the day ha in our household.
