Parenting Consultations Agreement

The following is a copy of my Parenting Consultations Agreement. New clients are asked to indicate that they have read, understood, and agree with its terms. Please contact me if you have any questions.

This document constitutes an understanding and a contract between us (the “Agreement”) and you should read it carefully and raise any questions and/or concerns that you may have before you sign it.

The partnership between Consultant (Parenting Expert, LLC) and Client and/or the Client’s minor child/ren is at the heart of what makes parent coaching successful. The Consultant (Parenting Expert, LLC) and Client agree to create a working relationship that first and foremost supports the Client, the Client’s family, and the healthy development of the Client’s children.

Parenting Expert, LLC, will provide parenting consultation and education in person and/or via an online platform. Parent consultation sessions focus on decreasing stress in your home by learning new ways to manage challenging situations with your children. As a consultant focusing specifically on parenting, please keep in mind that Parenting Expert, LLC will concentrate efforts on decreasing stress in your home by improving parenting skills, enhancing relationships between parents and children, and establishing habits that produce success at home and at school. Sessions may also include coaching parents in ways to modifying child behavior, increasing compliance, developing self-esteem, reducing disrespect, increasing responsibility, and improving attitudes. At times, the focus shifts to teaching parents ways to manage their own reactions and responses to their children. For separated and divorced parents, a variety of co-parenting and blended family issues may be addressed as well.

When relevant and desired, a direct coaching of the Client’s minor child/ren may be added to help the child tackle challenges and develop skills they can use long-term, facilitate more effective parent-child communication, and promote the well-being of the entire family. The client consents for the minor child's participation by agreeing to these terms.

Parenting consultation sessions may last a few weeks or a few months, depending on your specific needs and circumstances. It takes time to change a behavior, and it is easy to fall back into old patterns. Parental consultations do not offer any guarantee of success or definitive changed behavior of your child.

Breaches of confidentiality, in which I am obligated to report confidential information as a mandated reporter, are specific in only two instances:

If I have information that indicates that a child, elderly, or disabled person is being abused or neglected I am obligated by law to report this information to the appropriate local agencies for the protection of that person.

If a client is in imminent risk to him/herself or makes threats of imminent violence against another person, I am required by law to report this to the appropriate local agencies for protective action.

Though these situations rarely occur in coaching, if they do occur, I will do my best to communicate in advance any necessary and legally obligated protective action that I need to take.

Parental Consultation vs. Therapy

Parental consultation sessions focus on decreasing your stress by learning new ways to manage challenging situations with your children. The goal is to provide you with the tools that will help you gain confidence in your parenting skills. Parental consultation also works to improve the relationship between you and your children using respectful strategies and positive discipline.

Psychotherapy is a health service that includes mental health practitioners with training and experience in diagnosing and treating emotional and psychological problems.

The Client understands that the Consultant (Parenting Expert, LLC) is a developmental psychologist (PhD) and a researcher in the field of child development – not a licensed therapist.

The Client understands that the consulting provided is in no way to be construed as psychotherapy, psychological counseling, or as any type of therapy. This coaching relationship is not a substitute for counseling or psychotherapy. If either of us recognizes that you have a problem that would benefit from psychotherapeutic intervention, I will refer you to appropriate resources.

Waiver

You acknowledge and agree that during the consultation services, I may ask questions that are personal, challenging, or disturbing. You also acknowledge and agree that you are fully responsible for your physical, mental, and emotional well‐being, and that of your children, and for any actions, choices and decisions made because of the consultation. You waive any claims arising from my suggestions and advice (or lack thereof), and from actions, choices, and decisions you may make.

Ending Services

You are welcome to end services at any time or postpone services and return as needed. It is my hope that I can provide support to your family as you encounter new challenges as your children grow and change.

This Agreement constitutes the entire understanding and agreement of the Client and Consultant and no amendment, change or modification of this Agreement shall be valid, unless in writing and signed by the parties hereto.

By responding to this contract, I acknowledge that I have had the opportunity to review this Agreement, that I understand all aspects of it, and I agree to abide by its terms and conditions.

I appreciate your trust and the opportunity to work with you!
